Uterus prepares a bed for the embryo as it reaches the cavity. During the days following menstrual periods the endometrium gradually grows. This is the proliferative phase. After ovulation, the corpus luteum (Corpus Luteum in next post) starts secreting progesterone. This hormone causes decidual changes in uterus.  If fertilization occurs the decidua continues, otherwise is sheds off during the next menstruation and a new bed forms the next cycle. This is the process by which the embryo adheres to the wall of the uterus. It is the blastocyst that has hatched out of the zona pellucida. It is nourished by the decidual secretions. As the deciduas swells, it presses the blastocyst against the endometrium. The endometrium at this phase (day 20 to 25 of cycle or day 6 to 10 post ovulation) is receptive and the blastocyst adheres and starts to burry inside. The most receptive time is called “implantation Interval”.  The endometrium during this time secretes various proteins, cholesterol, steroids, and certain substances called “matrix substances”. These help in forming the connections and receptors for adhesion. This is further increased by Pinopodes. Implantation starts once embryo connects with pinapodes and decidual cells.
