Pinopodes are finger-like projections arising from the decidual cells. They are seen during the implantation window (day 19 to 25). They are seen only for two to three days. Their numbers are increased by progesterone and reduced by estrogens. Use: the pinapodes collect fluid, glycogen and lipids inside them. This reduces the empty space in uterine cavity and prevents the blastocyst from floating away. Also provides nutrition to the embryo (for 2 to 3 days till implantation) and helps to bring embryo close to the decidua so that it can adhere and implant. It also removes the excess fluid from the endometrial cavity. The timing of pinocyte formation may decide the implantation window. Follow us for more information on how embryo implants!
